Home minister to personally supervise anti-narcotics task force
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar on Wednesday visited the Karachi Police Office. Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon accompanied him on the occasion.
Upon arrival, Karachi Additional IGP Javed Alam Odho and other senior police officials welcomed the home minister, and a well-prepared contingent of the Karachi Police presented a guard of honour.
Officials said Lanjar held a meeting to review police action against drug mafias and anti-narcotics efforts. All the DIGs attending the meeting provided separate briefings on organised and successful police actions in their respective divisions against the drug mafias.
The home minister said the task force would take action across the province against drug mafias without any pressure and would ensure the arrest of those dealing with narcotics. “No one is above the law. Regardless of the influence or status of the accused, they must face justice,” he emphasised.
He stated that the SSPs who failed to act against the drug mafias would not only be held accountable but also be removed from their positions and asked to explain their inaction. He said that the anti-narcotics task force was active, but from now on, he himself would request reports and directly supervise it.
He urged all the stakeholders to provide effective and practical suggestions for the eradication of drug mafias. Lanjar ordered that the existing lists of drug mafias be updated and efforts to prevent drug trafficking and distribution be made robust.
He added that the investigation and prosecution of cases filed against agents, groups, and patrons of drug mafias should be strengthened to ensure exemplary punishments. He remarked that drugs were a curse that contributed to deterioration in law and order, and destruction of our youth, making effective prevention the need of the hour.
