Gang of extortionists busted in Mansehra

MANSEHRA: The police on Tuesday claimed to have busted a gang of extortionists and recovered two pistols and extorted money.

“Three suspects hired a car from Peshawar and detained its driver in Oghi with the help of local accomplices. They demanded Rs1 million as extortion from his family,” Waris Khan, head of the investigation team, told reporters.

The accused, Amir, Shahid and Danish had allegedly booked the vehicle from Peshawar for the Oghi. “As soon as they reached Oghi, they took the driver Shehbaz Haider Shah to the residence of Aafaq Shafique, where he was kept under guard,” Waris Khan said.

He added that the kidnappers demanded Rs1 million extortion money from the driver’s family, who transferred Rs100,000 to his account.The official said that extremists, fearing police action, set him free, threatening him to kill him and his children if he approached the police against them and lodged the FIR
