Haris scoops Open Chess crown
ISLAMABAD: Haris Rizwan was crowned champion in the Open Category final of the highly-anticipated Youm-e-Takbeer Open Chess Championship that concluded here Monday, says a press release.
Haris bagged top prize of Rs25,000. Aneesur Rahman Zaidi and Asad Ullah Khan secured second and third places, respectively. In the women’s category, Fareeha Siddiq emerged victorious, while Raja Hattam Ur Rahman dominated the Under-15 category, demonstrating the bright future of chess among Pakistan’s youth.
The championship was organized by the Islamabad Chess Association (ICA) that brought together country finest chess talent in the two-day competition at the ICCI Events Hall, ICCI House. The championship witnessed exceptional displays of strategic brilliance in all the categories with over 100 participants vying for the honours. The championship was inaugurated by Chief Guest Abdul Rahman Siddiqui, SVP ICCI.
The Chief Organizer & Senior Vice President of ICA Ch. Munir Sadiq thanked the audience and chess players for making the event a success. The participating players expressed their joy and expressed their desire to participate in such future events.
