Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh on Sunday claimed that a well-orchestrated conspiracy is under way to deprive the residents of Karachi of basic necessities, including water and electricity.

Speaking to the media at the Adil House, Sheikh accused the tanker mafia of exploiting the city’s residents for water. He urged the relevant officials to resign if they cannot resolve these issues.

Highlighting the Karachiites’ electricity woes, he noted that many areas endure up to 15 hours of outages on a daily basis, exacerbating the residents’ plight during the harsh weather. He warned that failure to cease unannounced power load-shedding would spark significant public protests.

He also criticised the city mayor for allegedly neglecting urban issues, especially as Eidul Azha approaches, warning that unpicked garbage can lead to a citywide crisis. He argued that the current representatives lack genuine public support, claiming that their assembly seats were obtained through dishonest means.

Emphasising on the PTI’s political influence, he claimed that the party’s electoral victories in the city were unfairly taken away. He lamented the judiciary’s allegedly weakened state after the passage of the 26th amendment, affecting the PTI’s legal battles.

He concluded by condemning the imprisonment of PTI leaders, including party founder Imran Khan, for their advocacy for national rights. He expressed hope for an end to injustice. Separately, Sheikh expressed sorrow over the death of Prof Iftikhar Ahmed Bhutto, who was killed by a dumper truck in the city. He urged strict measures against unauthorised vehicles and drivers, emphasising the need for accountability to prevent further tragedies. He offered his condolences to the bereaved family.
