Police attacked during raid on horse cart race; one held
LAHORE : In a dramatic turn of events near Babu Sabu, a police raid targeting an illegal horse cart race and associated gambling activity escalated into violence when local residents attacked the raiding team with sticks.
According to officials, the Shahdara police on a tip-off regarding large-scale betting on a horse cart race, raided the place to apprehend those involved. However, the raid met with fierce resistance from locals who attempted to obstruct the police action.
During the chaos, members of the crowd assaulted officers, resulting in injuries and damage to police uniforms, including that of a sub-inspector whose uniform was reportedly torn. Despite the resistance, law enforcement team managed to arrest a key suspect identified as Bala Aslam, who is believed to be a main organiser of the betting ring. Authorities also seized thousands of rupees stake money along with several horses and carts from the scene.
A case has been registered against the attackers, including an individual identified as Tauqeer Bhatti, along with several unidentified persons who fled the scene.
