Elders in Kurram strike peace agreement
PARACHINAR: The elders of upper and central Kurram on Tuesday signed a peace agreement paving the way for lasting peace and development in the violence-hit tribal district.
The tribal elders from key areas, including Karman Gram, Alam Sher, Dongila, Khumad, Khumsa, Para Chamkani and others participated in the negotiations and formally agreed to uphold peace.
A grand tribal jirga was held in the Khumsa area, where a large number of tribal leaders from the Turi, Bangash and Para Chamkani tribes were joined by district officials. Deputy Commissioner Ashfaq Ahmed and Additional Deputy Commissioner Aamir Nawaz also addressed the gathering.
Speaking at the event, tribal leaders, including Malik Hayat, Malik Pathan Chamkani, former senator Sajjad Syed Mian and Agha Munir Hussain pledged full support to the government’s efforts in maintaining peace, emphasizing that peace is essential for all.
Deputy Commissioner Ashfaq Ahmed noted that this was the third peace agreement between tribes in the region and that more such agreements would follow. He urged all parties to honour their commitments, assuring that the government would play a strong role in implementing the agreements on the ground.
He added that the challenges faced by the region were rapidly being addressed, and a new era of development and prosperity was on the horizon.
During the proceedings, Para Chamkani tribes welcomed the Turi tribes to the area, while the Turi elders expressed gratitude for their hospitality.
