Salaries’ non-payment: LHWs boycott anti-polio drive in Mohmand

GHALLANAI: Around 29 lady health workers (LHWs) have refused to carry out the ongoing anti-polio vaccination drive due to non-payment of their salaries for the past 14 months.

The LHWs boycotted the vaccination campaign against the crippling polio disease in Danishkol area in Mohmand tribal district for non-payment of their salaries. The workers declared they would not participate in the polio drive until their salaries were paid.

Also, the residents in Danishkol staged a protest in support of the LHWs’ demands and decided to boycott the polio campaign.When contacted, District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Adnan said that volunteer workers had been assigned the duty of anti-polio vaccination.

Regarding the protest in Danishkol, he said that Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Yasir Hassan had been briefed, and negotiations with the district administration were going on to settle the issue.Meanwhile, Mohmand Police completed all necessary arrangements for the polio campaign, and the drive was progressing in other areas of the district.
