KARACHI: The US Consulate in Karachi and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) discussed expanding bilateral trade and investment during a visit by US diplomats to TDAP headquarters, said a press release on Monday.

Economic Unit Chief at the US Consulate Kevin Furey and Economic Officer Tyrell Walker met with TDAP Chief Executive Faiz Ahmad Chadhar to explore ways to strengthen commercial ties. Chadhar noted that while the US remains a key trading partner, bilateral trade volumes remain modest and require deeper cooperation and facilitation. Furey endorsed the view, pledging support for increasing trade between the two nations.

TDAP identified several priority sectors for collaboration, including textiles, leather, surgical instruments, IT and e-commerce services, logistics, tourism, construction and workforce development tailored to US market needs. Opportunities in agricultural exports -- particularly value-added and finished goods -- were also discussed, alongside the importance of enabling greater participation in trade shows and delegations.

Chadhar acknowledged the historic role of the US in supporting Pakistan’s industrial growth and facilitating access to Western markets for Pakistani exporters.TDAP also briefed the US delegation on its ongoing trade promotion activities and extended invitations to American firms to participate in upcoming flagship events under its annual business plan.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic ties and fostering collaboration aimed at enhancing productivity and global competitiveness in Pakistan’s industrial and agricultural sectors.
