Mayor orders timely completion of development projects
Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Thursday chaired a meeting of the engineering department to review the pace and performance of ongoing development projects across the city.
Officials provided a detailed briefing on schemes underway in various districts and discussed the future course of action.
Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Metropolitan Commissioner Afzal Zaidi, Assistant Superintendent Engineer of District Central Zulfiqar Abro, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
The mayor issued clear instructions to complete all ongoing development projects within the stipulated timeframe, stressing that public welfare and convenience remained top priorities and that negligence would not be tolerated.
The meeting was told that the municipality was currently working on several key initiatives, including road construction in various localities, improvement of drainage systems, rehabilitation of parks, and provision of essential municipal facilities. Officials informed the mayor that several schemes were nearing completion, while new projects were in the planning and preparation phases.
Wahab directed the officers to ensure quality in all development work and to establish an effective monitoring system to guarantee transparency.
He noted that timely completion of projects would strengthen the city's infrastructure and significantly improve the quality of life for its residents.
He particularly urged the authorities to prioritise drainage projects in preparation for the upcoming rainy season.
Emphasising Karachi's role as Pakistan’s economic hub, the mayor asserted that the city's development was closely tied to the nation's progress, and any form of negligence was unacceptable. He called on all officers and staff to carry out their responsibilities with honesty and integrity to meet public expectations.
The development schemes included road repairs, flyover construction, upgrades to sewerage and water supply systems, tree plantation drives and installation of street lights.
The meeting reviewed challenges in various areas and agreed on immediate actions to address them.
Wahab reiterated that providing civic facilities was not merely a government duty but a shared mission that demanded sincerity and dedication.
He reaffirmed his commitment to utilising all available resources to transform Karachi into a modern, developed and clean metropolis.
