WANA: Torrential rains and flooding have wreaked havoc in the Lower South Waziristan region of Speen, devastating standing crops and critical infrastructure.

The unrelenting downpour, accompanied by strong winds, triggered massive floodwaters that swept through farmlands, devastating standing crops and critical infrastructure.A farmer, Jibran, whose wheat fields were completely destroyed by the surging waters said: “Yesterday’s rain completely destroyed our wheat crop. The harvest was ongoing, but during the process, floodwaters washed away all the wheat.”

Faiz Muhammad, another farmer from the region, highlighted the widespread destruction of other vital crops. “The rain caused severe damage to the mung beans, cotton, and vegetable crops,” he shared. “Every year, natural disasters cause heavy financial losses to local farmers in Waziristan,” he added, underlining the community’s ongoing struggle against climate-related challenges.
