Fly ash utilisation: GIK Institute, EPTL sign MoU to explore opportunities
SWABI: Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology and Engro Powergen Thar Limited (EPTL) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU to jointly explore research and innovation opportunities related to the utilisation of fly ash produced from the Thar Coal Power Project.
The MoU inked by GIK Institute Rector Prof Dr S M Hassan Zaidi and Jahanzeb Dal, general manager technical of EPTL. The ceremony was attended by senior officials from both institutions, including deans, heads of departments, and directors from GIKI, and technical and process teams from EPTL.
Under this MoU, both parties would collaborate on research and feasibility studies related to the sustainable use of Fly Ash in infrastructure development - including its application in roads, pavements, dams, and construction materials such as pavers and blocks.
The agreement also opens avenues for joint work on energy storage, asset life extension, and distance mentorship programmes. GIKI will also assist in reviewing chemical testing processes and explore opportunities for industry-academia certification and student training programs.
Speaking at the occasion, Prof Zaidi said the importance of bridging the gap between academia and industry through collaborative research that addresses real-world challenges.
Jahanzeb Dal expressed EPTL’s commitment to fostering innovation and sustainability by leveraging academic expertise for applied solutions.
