Pesco unveils plan to overcome summer power challenges

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) Chairman Himayatullah Khan, on Wednesday, presented a comprehensive three-month action plan to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah to address key electricity challenges in the province.

According to a press release, he was accompanied by Pesco CEO Akhtar Hamid Khan and other senior officials.

The chairman outlined strategic components of the plan, including minimizing load management during summer, expediting recoveries from provincial departments, intensifying anti-theft operations, and introducing operational improvements.Both the Pesco chairman and chief secretary stressed the urgency of reducing transmission and distribution losses to limit load management. The chief secretary called for a fair and balanced load management strategy.

Himayatullah Khan raised concerns over the security of grid stations, pointing to incidents where protesters had forcibly entered facilities and disrupted power supply.The chief secretary assured full support from district administrations to protect the Pesco infrastructure and maintain uninterrupted power flow.

To ensure transparency, it was agreed that Pesco would provide daily updates to the chief secretary on the plan’s progress. This move aims to enhance coordination and improve the province’s power situation.
