LAHORE:Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) condemned the police crackdown on protesters and arrests of doctors, lady doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff by the Punjab government during their peaceful sit-in protest in City. PIMA categorically rejected the government’s hospital privatization policy and supported the demands of the protesting healthcare workers.
In a statement on Wednesday, Central President of PIMA Prof Atif Hafeez Siddiqui said that for the past two weeks, members of the medical community had been peacefully protesting, yet the government not only ignored their demands but also resorted to violence against them. Women were beaten, their clothes torn, and they were dragged into police vans. PIMA demanded the immediate release of all arrested protesters and withdrawal of the privatisation policy.
