LAHORE : The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA), in partnership with Alliance Francaise de Lahore, the Honorary Consulate of France in Lahore, and with support from the Embassy of France in Pakistan and Punjab government, organised a special event titled "French Officers in the Service of Maharaja Ranjit Singh."

The event took place at the historic tomb of General Jean-Francois Allard, a French officer who left Napoleonic France to join the court of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Visitors had the opportunity to explore how French and other foreign officers contributed to modernising the Punjabi army in the 19th century — a legacy that continues to be remembered and honoured today.

Dr Nadhra Shahbaz Khan, Associate Professor of Art and Architectural History at LUMS, delivered the keynote talk. Known for her award-winning research on Sikh art and architecture, Dr Khan shared fascinating insights into the cultural heritage of Lahore during Sikh period. Her presentation highly appreciated by the diverse audience.

Speaking on the occasion, a senior WCLA official said, "The Walled City of Lahore Authority is deeply committed to highlighting the rich history of this region and ensuring the preservation and restoration of its magnificent architectural heritage." His remarks highlighted the Authority’s strong focus on both historical awareness and the conservation of Lahore’s architectural treasures.

The cafe-conference successfully brought together historians, cultural enthusiasts, scholars, and members of the public for a memorable morning celebrating the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties between France and Punjab.
