ISLAMABAD: The difference of voters between the Punjab and rest of provinces as well as Islamabad Capital Territory has increased significantly in the last 17 years with the highest recorded in 2018.
The comparative analysis of pattern of voters since 2008 shows that Punjab continues to maintain apparently insurmountable lead over the rest of Pakistan in terms of registered voters.
At the time of general elections 17 years ago, the number of registered voters was 80796382. Punjab consisted of 44500257 voters with a percentage of 55.10 in relation to overall voters, whereas other provinces, erstwhile Fata and the Federal Capital’s share was of 36296125 voters and percentage stood at 44.90, which brought the voters difference to 8204132 (10.20%); the smallest difference during these years.
Presently, there are a total of 133417505 (133.42 million) voters across the country, of which Punjab’s share is of 76010349 (76 million) voters (56.96%) and the three provinces and Islamabad’s combined share is of 57407156 voters (43.04%). Hence, the edge of the population-wise largest province over the rest of Pakistan is of 18603193 voters, which is 13.92%.
The difference of voters stood at 15390335 (14.6%) of total registered voters back in 2018. The total number of registered voters was 105955405, out of which Punjab had a share of 60672870 (57.3%) while Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Islamabad had a collective voters database of merely 45282535 (42.7%).
There were 86189802 eligible voters at the time of general elections in 2013 with Punjab’s share 49259334 voters (57.16%) and the three provinces, former tribal areas and Islamabad’s combined share of 36930468 (42.84%). Accordingly, the difference of voters was 12328866 (14.32 %).
