BANNU: A case of the theft of government medicines worth millions of rupees from the District Health Office has been resolved and action taken, said an official on Monday.
District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Zafar Iqbal informed the media that government medicines worth over 4.2 million rupees, stored for Basic Health Units (BHUs) across the district, were stolen from the DHO office’s medicine store.
He stated that the theft occurred during the nights of April 14 and 16, exploiting the absence of the former DHO after his transfer.
The medicines were loaded into an official vehicle and stolen. Upon assuming charge on April 17, Dr. Zafar was informed about the incident by the store in-charge, after which an immediate inquiry was ordered and CCTV footage was secured. The investigation revealed the involvement of three employees, with the main suspect, security guard Anees Khan, being terminated from service. Further action has been recommended to the Director General of Health against the other two employees, Baz Mohammad and Samad Ali Shah.
