Talal slams attacks on fast food chain
Talal says that PM and state have taken clear stand those who create such unrest will face strict action
FAISALABAD: Minister of State and PML-N leader Talal Chaudhry has strongly condemned the recent wave of attacks on a well-known international fast food chain in Pakistan.
Speaking to the media in Faisalabad, Chaudhry said that it is the responsibility of the state to ensure the protection of all businesses, whether local or foreign-owned.
He emphasised that certain extremist elements are using religion as a pretext for their own propaganda, even though their actions have no connection with the true teachings of Islam. “These people do not respect religion or the Constitution,” he said, urging swift action against such groups.
Chaudhry revealed that over 20 branches of the fast food chain have been damaged, and in Sheikhupura, an employee was killed in the violence. “So far, 41 FIRs have been registered, and several arrests have been made,” he confirmed.
Highlighting the economic importance, he said the chain has invested over $100 million in Pakistan, provides employment to 25,000 families, pays full taxes, and contributes actively to welfare causes. “The owner is a Pakistani Muslim and sources all products from local markets,” he added.
“Despite these challenges, the business owner is still trying to run operations. This reflects true resilience and commitment to Pakistan,” he said.
Talal Chaudhry stressed that the Prime Minister and the state have taken a clear stand those who create such unrest will face strict action. He called for unity across political and religious lines, and appreciated the support of religious scholars who have issued unanimous statements condemning such violence. “This is not Islam. This is not what we should be showing the world. At a time when Palestinians face oppression, we must not oppress our own people in the name of religion,” he concluded.
