The Preedy police have registered a case against 15 nominated and several unidentified individuals for the brutal mob killing of a man belonging to the Ahmadiyya community outside the Ahmadiyya Hall, Saddar, on Friday afternoon.

The FIR has been registered under sections 149, 148, 147, and 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), along with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).

The case was filed on the complaint of Abdul Naeem, a resident of District Shaheed Benazirabad, who stated that on April 18, 2025, he had come to Tariq Road, Karachi, to visit his relatives. Around 1:30pm, he received a phone call informing him that his 47-year-old cousin, Laiq Ahmed, son of Nazir Ahmed, had been attacked by a mob near Hashu Center, adjacent to Mazda Hotel.

Upon reaching the Civil Hospital with his family, Abdul Naeem was informed that Laiq Ahmed had succumbed to his injuries sustained in the violent assault. Later inquiries revealed that around 1:15pm, a large crowd had surrounded Laiq, brutally beating him and inflicting severe head and facial injuries, which proved fatal. After legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family.

Furthermore, the complainant stated in the FIR that Laiq Ahmed was a witness in a case, which is currently under trial. He alleged that during a court hearing on April 17, 2025, the nominated suspects had threatened Laiq Ahmed with dire consequences, including death. Abdul Naeem claimed that this fatal attack was carried out by these nominated and other unidentified suspects in retaliation.

Preedy DSP Safdar Ali confirmed that investigation is underway and no suspects have been apprehended yet.
