Islamabad:Climate change minister Senator Musadik Masood Malik on Thursday emphasised the critical role of green skills in shaping the country's sustainable future and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to equipping the national workforce for a just and resilient green transition.

"The opportunity before us is not just about transitioning to a green economy—it is about reshaping the future of work in Pakistan. It is about empowering our people to become architects of resilience and prosperity," the minister said during the National Stakeholder Consultation on Green Skills Development here.

The event brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, development partners, private sector leaders and youth representatives. Musadik highlighted the urgent need to invest in the skills and competencies essential for a sustainable, low-carbon economy.

“We must ensure that no one, especially the vulnerable, is left behind,” he said. The minister said that while the climate crisis continued to pose challenges to ecosystems, livelihoods and economic stability, green transformation and climate resilience building programmes and projects must be people-centred, participatory and just.

“With our green transition across energy, agriculture and urban development already under way, success will depend on deliberate investment in building green competencies across the workforce,” he said. He said skills were the currency of the future, so stronger collaboration between education systems, training institutions, businesses and policymakers was required.
