Maryam to give 1,000 free tractors to farmers
First tractor was given to female farmer from Bahawalnagar, Kausar Parveen
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz will give 1,000 free tractors to farmers under the Punjab Wheat Initiative Program in the coming three months.
She formally launched the CM Punjab Wheat Initiative Program on Tuesday and held a digital balloting by pressing a button. The first tractor was given to a female farmer from Bahawalnagar, Kausar Parveen. The CM personally called and congratulated other successful farmers on getting free tractors, including Muhammad Iqbal from Jhang and Salman Ahmed from Mandi Bahauddin. The farmers expressed gratitude to the CM for personally calling them.
Maryam said: “The Punjab government has launched multiple projects for the uplift of farmers including Green Tractor, Kisan Card and Super Seeder. By the grace of Allah Almighty, farmers will yield a bumper crop. I pray for the prosperity of my farmer brothers.”
The CM was informed in a briefing that 57,733 farmers with more than 12.5 acres applied for the free tractor scheme.
After undergoing the scrutiny and verification process, 21,496 farmers were found eligible for the balloting process. Tractors (55 horsepower) will be given free of cost to 1,000 farmers standing successful in balloting within three months. It was apprised in the briefing that wheat was cultivated on 560,000 acres in Punjab.
