Sindh collected Rs312bn in taxes in eight months
Reviewing the mid-year tax collection performance on Tuesday, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah found that against the target of Rs618.966 billion, the provincial government agencies concerned recovered Rs312 billion during eight months of the fiscal year 2024-25.
During the review meeting held at the CM House, Shah noted that this performance indicates a 37 per cent growth compared to last year, and the achievement of 50.41 per cent of the target.
The meeting was told that the provincial tax collecting agencies were expected to collect Rs412.644 billion between July 2024 and February 2025, but the actual collection was recorded at Rs312 billion.
This figure represents 50.41 per cent of the target, and shows a growth of 37 per cent compared to last year’s collection of Rs227.313 billion. To CM was told that the collection improved tremendously during the last quarter.
The excise & taxation (E&T) department collects six taxes/duties: infrastructure cess, motor vehicles tax (MVT), excise enactment (EE), professional tax, cotton fee and entertainment duty.
The collective collections come to Rs175.509 billion against the target of Rs152.405 billion (up to March 2025), which is 86 per cent of its annual target of Rs203.206 billion.
The infrastructure cess annual target is Rs170.185 billion, with a recovery of Rs154.635 billion, reflecting a 91 per cent collection rate. The MVT target is Rs15.974 billion, against a recovery of Rs12.514 billion, indicating a 78 per cent recovery rate.
The EE target is Rs13.923 billion, while the recovery stands at Rs6.5545 billion, or 47 per cent. The professional tax collection target is Rs2.597 billion, and the collection is Rs1.635 billion, which equates to 62 per cent.
The cotton fee target is Rs377 million, with a recovery of Rs93 million, representing 25 per cent. The entertainment duty target is Rs150 million, and the recovery is Rs77 million, or 51 per cent of the annual target.
The Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) set the target of Rs350 million for 2024-25. As of March 2025, it has collected Rs204.630 billion in Sindh Sales Tax (SST), compared to Rs162.362 billion during the same period last year. This reflects a growth of 26 per cent.
The Board of Revenue (BoR) has been given the target of Rs60.7 billion. So far it has collected Rs17.436 billion, which represents a growth of 38.96 per cent compared to the collection of Rs12.548 billion during the same eight-month period last year.
