Water strategy

This refers to the letter ‘Safeguard water’ (March 7, 2025) by Majid Burfat. Sindh and Balochistan, as lower riparian provinces, have long complained about the lack of sufficient water. There are several ways of solving this problem. At the top of the list, in terms of feasibility and financial viability, is the Soan Dam/Indus Link Canal project.
Currently, around 35 million acre-feet of water flows unused into the Arabian Sea, during July to September. By storing this excess water in the Soan Dam, it could be released as needed. Simultaneously we need to use what water we have more efficiently.
