‘AQIS terrorists’ among 16 suspects arrested

Sixteen suspected terrorists and target killers including members of al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) were arrested by the law-enforcement agencies in raids conducted in different parts of the city on Saturday.

Nazimabad sub-divisional police officer Zahid Hussain said SHO Idrees Alam Bangash of the Rizvia police station, after being tipped off about the location of terrorists, conducted a raid at a hideout in Nazimabad No 1 accompanied by personnel of an intelligence agency.

After a brief encounter, the police arrested three terrorists while their accomplices escaped.

The three terrorists were identified as Abdul Sami Khan, Mohammad Mazharul Islam and Mohammed Sohail Akhtar. They were found in possession of a Kalashnikov, a grenade, pistols, and explosive material.

During investigation, it was found that the three men were affiliated with AQIS and wanted by police in terrorism cases. They were currently planning attacks in Karachi.

In raids conducted in Orangi Town, police arrested six men including suspected target killers. Two of them were identified as Israr alias Izhar who were involved target killings. Their Kalashnikov and 20 rounds were seized. Two others, Izhar Ahmed alias Tayyab and Amjad Khan, were found in possession of a 32-bore revolver and a pistol.

Hameed Hussain alias Guddu was found in possession of a 30-bore pistol, Kamran Nazeer had 110 grams of hashish and 1,020 grams of hashish was seized from Hashim.

These men were wanted by the West district police for target killings, extortion cases and drug peddling.

Rangers arrests

Rangers arrested seven suspected criminals in raids conducted in different areas of the city.

A Rangers spokesperson he paramilitary force conducted raids in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Malir, Mangopir, Shah Faisal Colony, and Quaidabad and rounded up seven criminals affiliated with political parties. They were found in possession of weapons.

In raids conducted in Nazimabad and Defence, weapons including three small machine guns and a large quantity of ammunition were found and a man arrested.
