Khaqan urges govt to re-visit foreign policy
Abbasi says mosques and religious seminaries were now being targeted, which was matter of great misfortune
NOWSHERA: Awam Pakistan Party Chairman Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Sunday expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation in the country, stating that even religious and educational institutions were no longer safe from terrorists.
“Given the current circumstances, no one is secure,” he remarked while speaking to the media after offering Fateha for Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqqani at Jamia Darul Uloom Haqqania.
Abbasi condemned the assassination of Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqqani, calling it a tragic loss. He recalled his longstanding association with both Maulana Hamidul Haq and his father Maulana Samiul Haq, who was also assassinated. “The martyrdom of Maulana Hamidul Haq is an alarming reminder of how terrorism continues to thrive in this country,” he said.
Lamenting the rise in terrorist activities, Abbasi stated that mosques and religious seminaries were now being targeted, which was a matter of great misfortune. “May Allah guide those who have sown seeds of enmity among us,” he said, adding that if people were not safe in their own homes, they cannot be safe anywhere.
He emphasized that Jamia Darul Uloom Haqqania had remained a centre of learning and religious teachings. “This seminary holds a unique and significant place in the entire subcontinent and is recognized internationally,” he noted.
Abbasi urged the government to re-evaluate its internal and foreign policies, stressing that the ongoing war on terrorism must come to an end. He highlighted the sacrifices made by the public, politicians, and law-enforcement agencies, stating that countless lives had already been lost in this conflict. “It is time to bring this futile war to a conclusion,” he asserted.
Meanwhile, former chief minister Mahmood Khan, who is also Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-Parliamentarians (PTIP), condemned the suicide attack on Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqqani, the deputy administrator of Darul Uloom Haqqania and head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami (JUIS).
Speaking at a condolence reference at Darul Uloom Haqqania, Mahmood Khan expressed concern over the recent surge in terrorist activities, calling the deteriorating law and order situation alarming.
He urged both provincial and federal governments to reassess their internal and external policies to curb the rising wave of violence.
“Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been sacrificing for 45 years in this war. People, politicians, and law enforcement agencies continue to lay down their lives. How long will this senseless conflict persist? All stakeholders must come together to find a lasting solution,” he emphasized.
Lamenting the targeting of religious scholars and institutions, Mahmood Khan questioned, “Who are these people who don’t even spare mosques and seminaries? Islam regards the killing of one person as the killing of all humanity. Sadly, terrorists have no religion.”
He lauded Maulana Hamidul Haq’s lifelong dedication to religious service and social welfare, recalling his efforts to safeguard religious institutions and oppose un-Islamic practices. “He was part of the collective fatwa against terrorism and always stood against unlawful acts. What was his crime that led to this brutal attack?” he asked.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also visited Darul Uloom Haqqania to offer condolences on the martyrdom of Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq Haqqani and other victims of the recent suicide attack.
During his visit, he met with Sheikh-ul-Hadith Maulana Anwar-ul-Haq, Maulana Abdul Haq Sani, Maulana Syed Yousaf Shah, and other family members and scholars to express his grief.
