Odho inaugurates ANPR system in 10 police patrolling mobiles
Karachi police chief Javed Alam Odho on Friday attended the installation ceremony of modern Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras in 10 patrolling mobiles of the Defence police station under Community Policing Karachi (CPK).
Officials stated that the ceremony was attended by the DIG South, SSP South, CPK Chief Murad Soni, Hanif Gauhar, Brigadier (Retd) Razaq, and other dignitaries and police officers.
CPK chief Murad Soni briefed Odho on the details of the project, explaining that the high-resolution ANPR cameras were capable of instantly identifying vehicle number plates. These cameras had been integrated with the Command and Control Centre and the Talash App, significantly enhancing surveillance and security in the city. He further highlighted that CPK had installed modern cameras across Karachi, which had been instrumental in preventing crimes.
Addressing the ceremony, Odho expressed gratitude to the CPK team and other dignitaries, describing the project as a significant milestone in strengthening law and order in the city. He noted that community policing had contributed to a 24 per cent reduction in Karachi’s crime rate and emphasised the importance of adopting modern technology. He added that the installation of the ANPR cameras would further improve the identification and arrest of criminals.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Soni and his team presented shields of honour to the Karachi police chief and other officers. Later, a high-level meeting was held at the Karachi Police Office, chaired by Odho, with the participation of Zonal DIGs of Karachi Range, DIG Admin, DIG CIA, district SSPs, and SSPs Investigation.
The meeting extensively discussed traffic accidents, law enforcement, security arrangements, and high-profile cases. It was decided to intensify combing operations in sensitive areas and to further tighten security measures during cricket matches and the holy month of Ramazan in Karachi. The additional IG directed the police to take effective steps to protect citizens, combat crime, and restore public confidence in law enforcement.
