Upper South Waziristan HQ shifted from Tank to Ladha
WANA: The district headquarters of South Waziristan Upper has been officially relocated from Tank to Ladha, marking a significant milestone in the region’s administrative restructuring.
To celebrate the moment, a rally led by local leaders and residents departed from Makeen Market to Ladha. Dignitaries and locals from Kaniguram, Saam, Mushta, Badr, and surrounding areas also participated in the event.
The ceremony was attended by Member of National Assembly (MNA) Zubair Wazir, Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Asif Khan Mehsud, former Senator Maulana Muhammad Saleh Shah, Mayor of Ladha Tehsil Taj Malook Mehsud, Mayor of Sarwakai Tehsil Shah Faisal Ghazi, and a large number of tribal elders and community representatives.
Addressing the gathering, MNA Zubair Wazir, MPA Asif Mehsud, former Senator Saleh Shah, and other speakers highlighted the long-standing issue of South Waziristan’s district headquarters being located in another district, Tank, since British rule.
They said that this had significantly contributed to the region’s underdevelopment. The speakers criticised the fact that government officers overseeing reconstruction and development projects operated their offices in Tank and often neglected their duties, residing in Dera Ismail Khan, Peshawar, and other cities instead.
They expressed gratitude to the top military leadership and civilian authorities for their efforts in making this relocation possible.Speaking to the media, tribal elder Malik Irfanuddin Burki called the decision “a wise and much-needed move.” He said that Ladha is centrally located within South Waziristan Upper and is an ideal site for the district headquarters. He reiterated that keeping the headquarters in Tank since 1895 was a major cause of the region’s backwardness.
