Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon on Thursday chaired a meeting with a 34-member delegation of the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industries Karachi at the Central Police Office (CPO).

The delegation was led by Abdul Aleem, Secretary General of Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industries Karachi. The meeting was also attended by the DIGs of Establishment, IT, Traffic Karachi, AIGs of Admin and Operations.

The delegation had a discussion on parking, NOC procedures issued for foreign guests and security, increasing police cooperation and providing a safe environment for businesses. The participants were briefed by the AIG Operations Sindh on the measures taken by the Sindh police to maintain law and order in the province. The DIG Traffic Karachi informed the participants about the measures taken to prevent traffic problems and accidents.

The delegation said the procedure of NOC issued by the government regarding the arrival of foreign guests is time-consuming. There is no specific procedure for providing instructions regarding the security protocol issued by the government and the Sindh police to investors and industrialists from time to time. The Sindh police have provided great relief to the citizens by introducing innovations and facilities in the issuance of driving licences.

Abdul Aleem said we show the positive face of the country, especially Pakistan, to foreign investors, and inform them about the steps taken by the Sindh police and other law enforcement agencies for security.

IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon said that in case of any untoward incident with foreigners, we and you are left without defence. The police only implement the SOP made by the government. Moreover, the DIG SPU will soon visit your chamber and inform you about the security protocol and other matters related to foreign guests.

He added that we want you to point out shortcomings related to security so that we can improve security by removing these shortcomings. There is a zero tolerance policy on registering FIRs against unknown suspects in serious crimes. The crime rate of the province, especially Karachi, is very low compared to metropolitan cities of other countries.

Moreover, the IGP said, you can easily see the crime rate of Karachi and other cities on the internet, and we are trying our best to improve the investigation system. The police cannot function without the public; we have to work together, he remarked.

Meanwhile, in the light of the instructions of IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon, an awareness ceremony was organized at Saleem Wahidi Auditorium DL Branch Clifton regarding the provision of education to the daughters of police employees and the importance of education, in which about 100 daughters of police personnel participated along with their parents.

During the ceremony, Durbeen Foundation Program Manager Miss Razina Alwani informed the participants about the four-year free BEd program, on the successful completion of which, the Sindh government will provide guaranteed job opportunities in various government schools. The BEd program is being organized at the Government Elementary College, Hussainabad, Karachi, in which the daughters of police officers who have passed the intermediate examination with at least fifty percent marks will be considered eligible to appear in the entrance examination.

The last date of the entrance test in the first phase has been fixed as March 15, 2025. At the end of the ceremony, Shehla Qureshi, AIG Welfare, Sindh Police, emphasized the importance of girl education. The main objective of this ceremony is to expose the daughters of police officers to higher education and provide job opportunities.
