LAHORE:Under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar, a review meeting on crime prevention was held at the Central Police Office here.
Dr Usman Anwar evaluated the crime control, law & order, and security situation in the Multan and Sahiwal regions. The meeting was attended virtually by Additional IG South Punjab M Kamran Khan, RPO Multan Captain (Retd) Sohail Chaudhry, RPO Sahiwal Mehboob Rashid, and the DPOs of the respective districts.
IGP expressed dissatisfaction with the performance regarding the completion of challans and the arrest rate of proclaimed offenders in both regions. He instructed the officers to include habitual criminals in the POs' category and ensure their swift apprehension. He stressed the need to implement timelines and SOPs for FIR registration and investigation. He also emphasised focusing on cases involving blind murders, robbery killings, rape, kidnapping for ransom, and abduction of women and children.
In cases of sexual assault, the investigation must be handled by an expert officer from the SSOIU. He directed that under the Anti-Rape Act, data about convicted criminals should be registered and continuously monitored. RPOs and DPOs were instructed to collaborate with investigation officers to create a task list for the POs’ arrest and ensure regular follow-ups. They must also oversee the resolution of complaints through Virtual Women Police Stations, 1787, and other complaint portals.
He said that efforts should be made to increase the recovery rate of stolen motorcycles. He praised the performance of the Punjab government's flagship project, the Virtual Women Police Stations, for ensuring justice for women. He instructed RPOs and DPOs to directly contact complainants and petitioners at the 1787 complaint centre to address their grievances.
Cheques for construction of houses
Under the direction of IGP, a ceremony was held at the CPO for distributing financial assistance cheques for the construction of houses to the families of police officials who embraced martyrdom before 2017. An additional Rs8.5 million were distributed among the families of the police martyrs during the event.
Families of 15 martyrs were given Rs500,000 each, while the family of one martyr was given a Rs1 million cheque. The Punjab Police spokesperson provided details, stating that cheques were given to the families of martyred inspectors Shahid Abbas, Safdar Ali, martyred ASIs M Ali and Shab-e-Qadar constables M Arshad, Jaleel Ahmad, Rehman Ilahi and Iftikhar Ahmad. Dr Usman Anwar also mentioned that foreign scholarships for higher education were arranged for the martyrs' children, and agreements with prestigious educational institutions were inked to provide them with the best education.
Meanwhile, IGP met with police employees and their families at the CPO, Lahore. IGP listened to the problems of the police employees and issued orders for immediate relief. On the medical financial assistance request of Lady Corporal Shakeela Parveen, instructions were given to the RPO Sahiwal for relief. On the pension correction request of the wife of the martyred constable M Aslam and the financial assistance requests for Constable Ali Kamran, instructions were given to the DIG Welfare & Finance for relief. On Constable Iftikhar Ahmad's request, Additional IG Traffic Punjab was directed to provide relief.
On the seniority request of ASI Syed Dilshad Hussain and the promotion requests of three ASIs, M Tanveer, Javed, and Qaiser Mehmood, instructions were given to the DIG Establishment-I for relief.
On the request of the wife of martyred SI Sajjad Hussain, instructions were issued to the DPO DG Khan for relief. For the seniority requests of three Head Constables, Saeed Ahmad, Shahid Raza, and Tasleem Raza, instructions were given to the SSP Telecommunication to provide relief.
