Inefficient farming
Despite being an agricultural country, we are increasingly dependent on food imports to meet our basic needs. The rising population, water shortages, and outdated farming practices are putting immense pressure on our food supply, making it harder for ordinary people to afford essential goods. A key factor behind this crisis is the inefficient use of water in agriculture. Our outdated irrigation methods lead to massive water wastage, while climate change has made rainfall patterns unpredictable, affecting crop production. Moreover, rapid urbanisation is eating up fertile land, reducing the space available for farming. If we don’t act now, food shortages and skyrocketing prices will soon become a reality.
Another pressing concern is the lack of government support for small farmers, who make up the backbone of our agricultural sector. Many of them struggle with rising input costs, lack of access to modern equipment, and little to no financial assistance. Without strong policies to support local farmers, Pakistan will continue to face low productivity and high food prices. Encouraging sustainable farming, providing subsidies on essential inputs, and ensuring fair market prices can make a significant difference in securing our food future.
