Punjab CM, COAS attend conclusion of Horse and Cattle Show
Event showcases thrilling performances, including rapid horse riders carrying the national flag
LAHORE: The vibrant Horse & Cattle Show 2025, themed “May Punjab Prosper Forever,” concluded with a grand closing ceremony on Monday. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz hosted the event, while Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir attended as the guest of honour.
The Fortress Stadium was beautifully decorated, with guests arriving in the afternoon. Hundreds of drummers welcomed them with rhythmic beats and festive tunes, spinning in circles as they performed. Women dressed in traditional attire led a cavalry team, formally seeking permission before commencing the program. The event showcased thrilling performances, including rapid horse riders carrying the national flag, demonstrating their skills by spearing burning coals.
An exhibition match of kabaddi, “Rustam-e-Punjab,” entertained the audience, while dancing camels, goats, buffaloes, and sheep added to the spectacle.Dancers from various regions captivated the audience with their traditional performances, with Sindhi, Balochi, and Kashmiri dancers drawing particular attention. The show also featured flute performances themed “Green Punjab” and mesmerising Sufi dances.
A highlights reel of the 16-day Horse and Cattle Show was presented, followed by an impressive torch parade by the Rangers contingent. The musical segment included Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, who mesmerised the crowd, while Arif Lohar and his group performed. Choreographer Wahab Shah and his team presented a performance of the event’s theme song, “May Punjab Prosper Forever.” The night sky lit up with a spectacular fireworks display. The participation of hundreds of thousands of citizens set a unique record for the event. The 16-day festival featured renowned international teams from Turkey, Dubai, Baku, Ukraine, and Ethiopia. International players praised the event, calling it exceptionally well organised.
For the first time in Lahore, spectators enjoyed Shandur Polo matches, while the dog show at Gilani Park, featuring German Shepherds and other superior breeds, attracted the attention of children and families.International teams also took part in the seven-day tent pegging competition, with exciting contests of horse riders showcasing their skills. The Punjab Cultural Nights featured spectacular performances by prominent artists, while a special night celebrating the culture of Gilgit-Baltistan added to the festivities.
Competitions for high-yielding dairy animals were held, while the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) organised a two-day flower exhibition, attracting thousands of visitors to Gilani Park. The Children’s Festival, music and food festival, vintage car show, and family cycling event were among other major attractions. Thousands of families participated in the Family Cyclothon, which took cyclists from Main Boulevard to Bagh-e-Jinnah. The Rustam-e-Punjab wrestling competition at Minar-e-Pakistan thrilled spectators, while the Sufi Festival at Lahore Fort featured captivating performances by renowned singers.The Punjab Industries and Artisan Exhibition was held at the Expo Centre Lahore, showcasing industrial and artisanal crafts.The 2025 Horse and Cattle Show set a new record, with hundreds of thousands of citizens attending over 20 major events, making it one of the biggest cultural celebrations in Punjab’s history.
