Customs seizes Rs100m electronic goods

Personnel of the Pakistan Customs Enforcement Karachi late on Wednesday night raided Star City Mobile Market and seized electronic items, including cellphones, worth Rs100 millions.

Syed Irfan Ali, a spokesman for the customs, said a large number of goods, including mobile phones, tablets, air pods, smart watches, were seized in the raid. The Collectorate of Customs Enforcement, in collaboration with an intelligence agency, conducted a joint operation under the leadership of Deputy Collector Customs Enforcement ASO Syed Muhammad Raza Naqvi at Star City Mobile Market, Saddar, and raided several warehouses.

The seizure included more than 2,500 used mobile phones, more than 350 tablets of different brands, smart watches, air pods. The operation included gutka and liquid vape flavors of Indian origin were also recovered.

He added that the goods have been transferred to the Customs House Karachi for further legal action. Moreover, a large crowd gathered at the market during the operation. The enforcement personnel managed the situation efficiently and effectively without the need for assistance from external law enforcement agencies.

Irfan Ali said that on a tip-off received by Collector Customs Enforcement, Karachi, Moinuddin Wani, the ASO conducted a raid on a warehouse in Babar Market, Landhi and seized 3,000 kilograms of hazardous smuggled goods, 120 kilograms of katha, 1,680kg of tobacco, and 400kg of packing material. The total value of the seized smuggled goods is Rs45 lakhs. The seized goods have been transferred to the warehouse of ASO Enforcement.
