Senior PPP leader, MNA Nawab Yousuf Talpur passes away
He was a member of the National Assembly on PPP’s ticket from District Umerkot
KARACHI: A senior politician and parliamentarian of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Nawab Muhammad Yousuf Talpur, passed away at the age of 82 here on Tuesday, his family sources said.
He was a member of the National Assembly on the PPP’s ticket from District Umerkot. His funeral prayers will be held in his native town of Kunri on Wednesday (today) at 2pm.
Talpur served as a federal minister in Benazir Bhutto’s government in the 1990s. He served as a member of the National Assembly from District Umerkot six times. As a student, he actively took part in the movement against one-unit in the country during Ayub Khan’s regime.
In his condolence message, Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah, who is also from Umerkot, noted that the late Talpur had always been vocal in the National Assembly for the water rights of the people of Sindh, for promoting the Sindhi language, and other due rights of the inhabitants of Sindh. He said the late Talpur was a pro-people politician.
In his condolence message, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said the political services of the late Talpur would always be remembered. The CM condoled with the bereaved family.
Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori said the late Talpur was a sincere politician who had always remained committed to the welfare of the people. In his condolence message, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said the late Talpur was an asset to his party. Bilawal recalled that the Talpur as an MNA always stood for the rights of the people and spoke against unjust distribution of water by the federal government.
Bilawal noted that the late MNA was a pro-democracy activist since his days as a student. He praised the courage and perseverance Talpur showed while enduring imprisonment and other sufferings during the Movement for Restoration of Democracy in the past dictatorial regime in the country. PPP senior leader Shazia Marri said Talpur had been a popular politician among the people of his constituency.
