As reported by Transparency International, Pakistan is ranked 135 out of 180 countries in terms of public-sector corruption perception and its Corruption Perception Index score is 27. These figures alone are indicative of the corrupt practices going on in the nation. While the nation drowns in poverty, the corrupt thrive in oceans of wealth; it is pitiful but true. From politicians to other leaders, influential figures manipulate their power for personal gain – often at the expense of the vulnerable and extort wealth from them to feed their own greed and desires.
Pakistan’s citizens are frequently used, gas lighted, manipulated, and exploited to cater to the whims of whomever has any authority. Every day, cases of bribery and exploitation are reported, but the corruption is so deep-rooted in the system that it is egregious. There are people in various positions and levels of power, and they are there to serve the people. The people do not serve them. We should take a stand, understand our rights as citizens, and know when and where to stand our ground. Take action against those who exploit us and those who take advantage of vulnerable populations.
