ISLAMABAD: A pack of five golfers led by Ansar Mehmood ended the opening round with a score of under par in the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) Open Golf Championship that started here at the Margalla Greens Golf Club Wednesday.
Ansar carded five under 66 on the par 71-hole course to take a one-stroke lead over Mohammad Naeem (67). There is a two-way tie for the third spot with leading professionals Ahmad Baig and Mohammad Munir finishing the first round with three under 68. Aadam Syed (70) is one under for the day.
The event is being held under the auspices of the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB), Joint Staff Headquarters. Earlier, on Saturday Vice Admiral Ovais Ahmed Bilgrami, Vice Chief of Naval Staff, inaugurated the championship in which a total of 435 golfers from across the country will compete in seven categories including professionals , amateurs, senior professionals, junior professionals, amateurs, senior ladies, and juniors are competing.
