LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has achieved a remarkable feat by completing the renovation of Gaddafi Stadium in just 117 days, setting the stage for Friday’s spectacular opening ceremony ahead of a packed international cricket calendar with ICC Champions Trophy being the major international event.
The modernised venue, transformed under PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s leadership, now boasts world-class facilities including advanced LED lighting systems, two expansive score screens, and premium imported seating across all enclosures. The comprehensive upgrade extends to newly constructed hospitality boxes and enhanced amenities for both players and spectators, establishing the stadium as a premier international cricket destination.
Friday’s opening ceremony, free to the public from 5.30pm promises a grand spectacle with Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif as the chief guest. The event will showcase Pakistan’s cultural vibrancy through performances by celebrated artists Ali Zafar, Arif Lohar, and Aima Baig, complemented by a mesmerising display of fireworks, innovative light shows, and dynamic drum performances. This celebration precedes Pakistan’s opening match against New Zealand on February 8, marking the beginning of the tri-nation ODI series that leads into the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 starting February 19.
The renovated stadium represents a significant milestone in Pakistan’s cricketing infrastructure, featuring improved viewing angles and enhanced seating arrangements that promise an unparalleled spectator experience.
