The Karachi mayor should provide justification to the 16-year legacy of corruption, mismanagement and bad governance in Sindh under the direct and consecutive rule of the Pakistan Peoples Party.

Karachi Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Monem Zafar said this while inaugurating beautification work of Alhassan Chowk in Nazimabad and the surrounding area with 55,000-square-foot paver blocks.

He said that during the ongoing municipal tenure, the JI jad restored and established over 125 parks, dozens of public sector schools, roadside gardens, open air gyms and other facilities for the people in nine towns of Karachi, whereas the PPP regime could not cover even manholes in the city.

He recalled that the JI's past mayor Niamatullah Khan had gifted K-III water supply project to Karachi but the PPP despite enjoying rule in all formats of governance could not deliver on the K-IV water supply project, which was also initiated by Niamatullah.

He recalled that the former mayor had also established dozens of colleges in the city, apart from establishing model parks, roads, etc. but the PPP had nothing to show but corruption and mismanagement when it came to development of Karachi.

The JI leader held the mayor responsible for the prevailing water and sewerage crises in the mega city.

He said the PPP government was also responsible for turning the city of lights into the city of garbage.

He said that under the vision of JI Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, the party would deliver in Karachi in a manner more than what it had been mandated to do, instead of flying files and shedding crocodile tears.

He alleged that the PPP was imposed on Karachi through rigged elections.

Meanwhile, the JI leader appealed to the people of Karachi to join the party’s protests today (Friday) for their due rights.

He said the government would have to pass on the billions of rupees saved by renegotiation with independent power producers to the consumers.

The JI has announced 14 protest sit-ins simultaneously in Karachi today as a part of its countrywide protest against hiked power tariff.
