ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari, in his capacity as president of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), has appointed Farzhana Naek as chairperson of the PRCS for a three-year term.
A formal notification issued by the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation & Coordination on Wednesday confirmed her appointment with immediate effect.
Mrs Naek previously served as chairperson of the Sindh branch of PRCS for two years and will now assume responsibilities at the national level, overseeing humanitarian efforts, disaster response and healthcare initiatives across Pakistan.
The PRCS, affiliated with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, plays a crucial role in disaster management, emergency response, blood donation services and community-based health programs. She will be responsible for leading the organization’s strategic direction, coordinating with national and international partners and ensuring effective relief efforts during emergencies and crises.
Her appointment comes at a time when Pakistan faces multiple humanitarian challenges including climate-related disasters, healthcare crises and a growing need for emergency medical assistance.
Observers believe her leadership will be instrumental in strengthening PRCS operations and expanding its reach to vulnerable communities.
