WANA: Four policemen, who were recently kidnapped from Upper South Waziristan, were recovered through efforts by the police, security forces, and tribal elders, a senior police official said on Saturday.
District Police Officer (DPO), Upper South Waziristan, Arshad Khan confirmed the development.
He said the policemen had been abducted late Wednesday night near the Umar Roghzi police post in the Sararogha tehsil of Upper South Waziristan.
He added that following coordinated efforts involving police, security forces, and local tribal elders, all four cops were safely recovered.
The policemen were identified as Akbar Khan, Jan Muhammad, Sultan, and Naseeb Khan.
They were released along with their weapons and other belongings.
Tribal elders from the Mehsud and Burki tribes lauded DPO Arshad Khan and the security forces for ensuring the safe recovery of the cops, stating that this effort would boost the morale of the police force.
This incident marks the first time that abducted policemen in the region have been successfully rescued without harm. However, South Waziristan and neighbouring districts have recently witnessed an increase in attacks targeting police and security personnel.
