Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Engr Haifz Naeem-ur-Rehman has demanded for allocating Rs500 billion for Karachi, while presenting a charter of JI’s demands for the development of the metropolis.
The 13-point charter was presented by Hafiz Naeem at a press conference held at the JI Karachi headquarters, Idara Noor-e-Haq, on Monday.
The charter demands immediate measures for sustainable development in all civic sectors of Karachi. Besides this, it also demands a peaceful situation of the law and order in the city by taking concrete measures and introducing reforms in the police department without any influence of political parties.
Speaking at the press conference, Hafiz Naeem lashed out at the Pakistan Peoples Party and its Sindh government, saying that the PPP was not giving Karachi its due share as proposed in the budget for the fiscal year 2016-17.
The JI leader said the provincial government had allocated an amount of Rs50 billion for the megalopolis as a cosmetic measure, while the ruling regime deemed it fit to allocate Rs14.35 billion for the Chief Minister House, the Governor House and the Sindh Assembly.
He also said the so-called custodians of Karachi were also hands in gloves with the provincial rulers as they had joined hands with those who had usurped the rights of Karachities.
Quoting the Shahrah-e-Quaideen as an example, the JI leader said the government had included several ongoing and completed projects to artificially expand the volume of the budget.
He also raised the points of water supply to the city, highlighting the K-4 project and its requirements.
He was of the view that the allocated amount of water was much less than the desired amount.
Hafiz Naeem also said the then Karachi Electric Supply Corporation was privatised on the condition that the citizens would not subjected to power outages.
“The city is facing a short fall of 1300 megawatt. Along with providing relief to Karachiites from over billing, arrangements should be also made to provide at least 500 megawatt electricity immediately.”
He also demanded of the government to implement the charter in its true spirit and constitute a committee, comprising all staje holders of the city, to over view the implementation of the charter.
The JI in its charter also demands two model sports complex in each district of the city, overhauling of slum areas and launching of low-cost housing schemes.
It also demands a proper disaster management system, establishment of two universities and other educational institutions, uplifting health facilities and restoration of circular railway and installing of mass transit system across the city.
