All set for Trump’s indoor inauguration amid extreme cold forecast
Inaugural parade will be held indoors at Washington’s Capital One Arena about 1.6km away
NEW YORK: All preparations for Republican President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremonies have been finalised. However, due to forecasts of severe weather in Washington on January 20, the inauguration will now take place inside the Capitol building.
The harsh weather is also expected to affect the number of attendees, leading to adjustments in the arrangements. As a result of this change, updated instructions have been issued to the invited guests. The predicted severe weather may also impact public participation in related events across Washington.
The inaugural parade will also be held indoors at Washington’s Capital One Arena about 1.6km away, along with all three inaugural balls. The last president to be sworn-in indoors was Ronald Reagan in 1985, when cold weather also plagued the US Capitol.
Meanwhile, a surge in travellers from New York and other cities to Washington has led to high demand for flights, trains, and buses, making it difficult to secure seats. Accommodation in hotels in Washington and surrounding areas has also become challenging. In light of heightened security measures, strict checks are being conducted on individuals checking into hotels in the city. Washington is bracing itself for both the logistical challenges and the ceremonial grandeur of the inauguration under extraordinary weather conditions.
