Asad summits Antarctica’s Mount Vinson
KARACHI : Pakistani mountaineer Asad Ali Memon has successfully scaled Mount Vinson, the highest peak in Antarctica, bringing him one step closer to completing the Seven Summits challenge.
The 26-year-old climber, who is attempting to summit the highest mountains on each continent, shared his accomplishment with this correspondent, describing the immense physical and mental challenges he faced during the ascent.
“From Karachi to Antarctica, the journey ends here,” Memon said. “Battling sub-zero temperatures, relentless winds, and extreme isolation over the past two weeks tested every ounce of my strength. But nothing is impossible when fueled by purpose, discipline, and the will to push beyond limits.”
Mount Vinson, standing at 4,892 meters (16,050 feet), is Antarctica’s tallest mountain, located deep within the icy wilderness of the continent. Known for temperatures plunging as low as -40°C and unpredictable weather, the peak is considered one of the most demanding summits in the world.
This achievement marks the sixth successful climb in Memon’s pursuit of the Seven Summits, following the Messner version of the challenge. He has previously summited Mount Everest in Asia, Mount Elbrus in Europe, Mount Aconcagua in South America, Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, and Mount Denali in North America. Only one peak remains: Puncak Jaya in Indonesia, which he plans to tackle next.
Hailing from Larkana, a city in Pakistan’s Sindh province known for its flat terrain and scorching heat, Memon’s journey to the highest peaks of the world has defied expectations. His accomplishments have transformed him into a symbol of resilience and determination.
“This victory is not just mine; it belongs to every dreamer out there,” Memon said. “To those who choose hardship over luxury, discipline over comfort, and resilience over giving up. Keep chasing your dreams, no matter how impossible they seem.”
