Transport woes

As someone who commutes daily from Mailsi to Vehari, both in Punjab, for work, I have personally experienced the frustrations of unreliable transport systems. One of the primary problems is the complete lack of a fixed schedule for buses, vans, and other local transport options. Vehicles rarely arrive on time, making it difficult for students to reach their schools or colleges punctually. For professionals working in essential sectors such as education, police, and rescue services, delays in reaching workplaces disrupt their productivity and performance. This lack of punctuality affects not only individuals but also the institutions they serve, creating a ripple effect of inefficiency.

Despite the global practice of providing discounted fares to students, transporters in Pakistan often overcharge this vulnerable group. Moreover, the overall condition of public transport is substandard. Vehicles are frequently overcrowded and poorly maintained, raising safety concerns for passengers. The lack of proper infrastructure, such as bus stops and shelters, adds to the inconvenience. Introducing regulated transport systems with fixed schedules and affordable fares and upgrading transport infrastructure is crucial.
