Unregistered, token tax defaulter vehicles fined
LAHORE: The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department (Region-C, Lahore), in collaboration with the traffic police, is conducting a crackdown on vehicles with fake number plates and unregistered vehicles.
On the eighth day of this operation, over 11,546 vehicles were inspected at more than 35 checkpoints across City and other locations. During the inspections, 427 vehicles were found unregistered, 1,170 were token tax defaulters, and 497 were using illegal number plates.
The total outstanding token tax for defaulters amounted to Rs16,599,475, out of which Rs16,780,517 was successfully collected on the spot during the operation. Additionally, illegal number plates were confiscated and destroyed as part of the enforcement action.
This operation, initiated on January 1, continues daily from 9AM to 5PM. It targets vehicles using fake number plates, non-standard plates, open transfer letters, and unregistered vehicles. Seven specialised teams, each comprising a senior officer and supporting staff, have been deployed at key checkpoints, including Saggian Bypass, Canal Road, Thokar Niaz Baig, Gulberg, Walton Road, Sheikhupura Road, and Qurtaba Chowk.
Excise and Taxation Punjab Director General Umar Sher Chattha, emphasised that the purpose of this operation was to raise awareness among vehicle owners about their legal obligations.
Rs1.5m additional funds for cops’ medical
The Compensation Award Committee has approved an additional Rs1.5 million for the medical expenses of police personnel. According to the details, Rs500,000 were granted for the treatment of injured Constable Iftikhar Ahmad from Vehari, while Rs300,000 for retired injured Sub-Inspector Muhammad Iqbal from Sheikhupura. Similarly, Rs250,000 were provided for the treatment of injured Constable Shahbaz from Lahore, Rs250,000 for the injured Constable Ali Hamza from Lahore and Rs250,000 were also provided to injured Constable Imtiaz Ali for his treatment.
