Wapda, Army, Faisalabad, Lahore secure victories
LAHORE: Defending champions Wapda, Army, Faisalabad, and Lahore dominated their opponents in the opening round of the National Women’s Basketball Championship, organised by the Pakistan Basketball Federation at the Wapda Sports Complex, here on Thursday.
Wapda, Karachi, Bahawalpur, Islamabad, Pakistan Army, Lahore, Hazara, and Faisalabad are participating in the event. In the opening match, WAPDA, the defending champion, began their campaign with a convincing 48-29 victory over Karachi. Kainat Bibi led the way for Wapda with 14 points, while Anaya Kamran scored 8 points for Karachi.
Pakistan Army secured an easy win over Hazara with a dominant 95-5 scoreline. Ayesha Dilshad led the Army to a comprehensive victory with a game-high 22 points. Faisalabad defeated Bahawalpur 43-10, while Lahore triumphed over Islamabad with a 49-35 victory.
“We are thrilled to see the high level of competition in the opening round,” said an official. “This championship provides a valuable platform for women’s basketball in Pakistan, and we are committed to providing opportunities for these talented athletes to showcase their skills.”
Four more pool round matches are scheduled for Friday, the second day of the championship. The semi-finals will take place on December 29, with the final scheduled for December 30.
