LAHORE: Peshawar registered a crucial 125-run victory over Lahore Whites on the third day of their second triangular stage fixture in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium. The win keeps Peshawar in contention for a spot in the final of the tournament.
Lahore Whites’ in reply faltered in its chase. Looking to the target of 257, Lahore Whites were dismissed for just 131 in 23.3 overs, with Sajid Khan playing a starring role. Sajid claimed his 17th first-class five-wicket haul with remarkable figures of 5/43 in just 6.3 overs, guiding Peshawar to victory. Despite a valiant knock of 56 runs off 62 balls from Lahore Whites’ captain Saad Nasim, which included eight fours and a six, Lahore’s chase faltered.
Pacers Niaz Khan (3-24) and Mir Hamza (2-38) were also instrumental in Peshawar’s win, sharing five wickets. Their efforts, combined with Sajid’s exceptional performance, ensured a comprehensive victory for Peshawar, keeping their hopes of qualifying for the final alive.
Earlier in the day, Peshawar resumed from their overnight score of 14/3 and were bowled out for 141 in 40 overs. Nabi Gul played a vital knock, remaining unbeaten on 83 off 138 balls, which included 12 fours.
