Our planet is getting hotter with every passing year. Pakistan is already among the top five countries most vulnerable to the climate crisis. The question remains, who will save Pakistan from this climate catastrophe? The UN Climate Change Conference (COP 29) set a global finance target of $300bn per year to help developing countries cope with the climate crisis by 2035. However, how and when this money will materialise remains dubious.
The US President-elect Donald Trump has referred to climate change as a ‘hoax’, raising doubts about the commitment of the rich countries to help the Global South on climate change. But, even if Pakistan receives the funds, who is sure that the funds will be spent on the climate crisis given our high levels of corruption. Sadly, it seems like there is no clear saviour in sight.
