Two martyred in Waziristan blast

Police officials say blast occurred when Maulana Shahzada Wazir, believed to be the target, was leaving mosque after prayers

WANA: Two people were martyred and four injured in a blast near a mosque in Azam Warsak Bazaar in Lower South Waziristan tribal district.

Sources said the blast occurred in Azam Warsak Bazaar, leaving two people, including a woman, dead. Four people were injured in the remote-controlled blast that took place near the mosque at around 5pm.

Police officials said the blast occurred when Maulana Shahzada Wazir, who was believed to be the target, was leaving the mosque after prayers.

Four people identified as Shah Hussain, Noor Hussain, Zainullah and Maulana Shahzada Wazir were injured in the explosion. One person, Mufti Ejazul Haq, was killed in the blast.

The Deputy Medical Superintendent, DHQ Hospital, Wana, Dr Fazl Ur Rehman, said the condition of some injured was critical. Two injured were shifted to Dera Ismail Khan due to critical condition.

Usman Wazir, SHO of Azam Warsak Police Station, said unidentified persons had planted a remote controlled bomb near the mosque in the Azam Warsak Bazaar. The police are investigating the incident.
