Discriminatory checks
By our correspondents
June 04, 2016
Security personnel manning the check post at Gora Qabristan on the main University Road in Peshawar are discriminating against poor people who are going to Saddar by public or private transport. Only people travelling on buses, mini-buses, coaches, etc, are being frisked while those in private vehicles go without any checks.
From the point of view of security nobody should be spared. Singling out people in public or private transport for vetting is a blatant violation of Article 15 that deals with the freedom of movement; Article 25 that guarantees equality of citizens and Article 26 that calls for non-discrimination in respect of access to public places.
