ISLAMABAD: Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) remarked during the hearing of a case relating to the jurisdiction of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) that before opening an inquiry into a corruption case, NAB should check whether it is its jurisdiction to investigate or not.
The court pointed out that the parliament has abolished corruption cases worth billions of rupees, and when it realises the consequences of this action, it will be too late.
Justice Kayani gave his remarks during the hearing of a citizen’s petition against a NAB inquiry into a case related to the Capital Development Authority.
He said NAB should check before opening an inquiry into a corruption case if it is its jurisdiction to investigate. Now the “toothless NAB” should enjoy [the hopeless situation], and so should the people, he remarked.
He said the parliament has abolished corruption cases worth billions of rupees, adding that over a hundred major corruption cases have been abolished, with the accused having flown abroad.
