Chiefs’ tenure extension internal matter of armed forces: PTI’s Raja
Raja stated a conspiracy had been hatched to turn the Pakistani people into slaves
LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Barrister Salman Akram Raja has said the extension in tenure of the services chiefs is an internal matter of the armed forces. However, he said the nation would have to resist against the “attack” on the institution of judiciary by the government. Addressing a pressconference at the Lahore Press Club on Tuesday, Salman Akram Raja said that it was high time the nation stood up to protect the judiciary.
Raja stated a conspiracy had been hatched to turn the Pakistani people into slaves by the present rulers and to weaken the institution of judiciary. Raja said 17 posts of judges were created in the Supreme Court in a day and it was obvious that the government wanted judges of its own choice as well as of the establishment.
To a question, he said the PTI chairman also stood for independence of judiciary. He added that a state disconnected from its people could not prosper.Speaking on a point of order during the National Assembly session, Leader of the Opposition Omar Ayub said Tuesday the new legislation extending the service tenure of the army chief has put the careers of many officers at stake.
